For the past 20 years I’ve represented adults and children who have been abused. We sue their abuser and seek justice for the victims. It’s hard, emotional work, but it’s worth it.

I get a lot of calls from homeowners about their homeowners insurance companies refusing to pay for roof replacements and repairs. Some of these are very justifiable complaints- Insurance companies make money by not paying claims and investing your premiums. That said, there are a lot of unscrupulous roofing companies out there who offer a “free inspection” and then discover “hail damage” and tell you that you need a new roof and insurance will pay for it. For example, there was a small change of rain or ice in Raleigh this morning and I get this unsolicited text offering a free inspection. Probably a service that sells leads to roofers. We didn’t have ANY ice, snow, or hail. So be careful out there. Also, know that if you make a claim on your homeowners, your insurance might not pay, and they may raise your rates. So weigh and measure that possibility and cost. And whatever you do, if you have minor hail damage and you can’t afford a new roof, don’t pay a roofer thinking you’ll get your money back from insurance. Get them to approve the claim before you start construction.
