ArtRoot recently traveled to the City of Sheboygan, WI with a delegation of Racine artists, arts advocates and nonprofit reps to find out more about the city's arts sector. We discovered a vibrant, welcoming community and a city government that prioritizes the arts as an economic driver and catalyst for community pride.

Thank you to the following organizations and individuals for your hospitality and insights: the Art Preserve of the John Michael Kohler Arts Center and curator Tanya Geyer; Stephanie H. Weill Center for the Performing Arts and Executive Director Katy Golodsky; John Michael Kohler Arts Center and curator Laura Bickford and artist Pachia Lucy Vang; WordHaven BookHouse, LLC and Sheboygan Poet Laureate Anneliese Finke; artists Frank Juarez, Erica Huntzinger, Sara Willadsen, and Dale Knaak; and Impressions Fine Art Gallery and Founder Mary Grady. A special shout-out to Mayor Ryan Sorenson's Assistant, Cati Pudner, who organized and accompanied our group throughout the itinerary. We look forward to hosting you all in Spring 2027!

Spotlighting Our Literary Community

06/24/2026

It is with great pleasure that we announce our 21st ArtRoot Writer-In-Residence: Emma Widmar!

Emma is a writer, artist, and tireless volunteer. Her Professional Communications degree from Gateway Technical College earned her a journalism internship at Racine County Eye, then a full-time reporting position. She’s also worked as co-anchor of TMJ4 News’ Racine Roundup.

Emma believes that storytelling serves as a bridge to help promote empathy. By generously sharing her own story as a disabled person, she’s become an advocate for acceptance and understanding in our community. During her tenure as ArtRoot’s Writer-in-Residence, you can find her writing at The Inclusive Bean and read her weekly blog posts at racinewir.com.

Congratulations to Emma and a huge thank you to our most recent ArtRoot Writer-In-Residence, Jay Mollerskov.
