✨Massachusetts passed a new law that makes it easier to SEAL eviction records for tenants going into effect May 05, 2025.

✨One of the biggest hurdles individuals face when finding an apartment or employment is having an eviction on their record (even in situations when they are of no fault of the tenant)

✨What does this mean for you?

After May 5th, you can petition for the court to seal your records immediately if you:

* Were evicted and won your case
* Were evicted and the landlord ended up dismissing your case
* If you were evicted under a no-fault eviction

If it was a non-payment eviction there is recourse for you as well with certain restrictions.

With layoffs impacting so many these days, it’s so important to pay attention to what you are signing and know your rights.

Some red flags to watch out for ⬇️

1. Vague language around benefits owed or no clear timeline for payment of severance or final paycheck.

2. Clauses that include non-compete, non-solicitation, and/or confidentiality agreements that could restrict future employment opportunities.

3. Waiving legal rights or your ability to pursue any claims against your employer.

4. Pressuring you to sign quickly.

After a 5 day jury trial in Brockton Superior Court, Attorney Megan Shaughnessy and Attorney Leah Duffield secured a $310,000.00 jury verdict on behalf of their client for a breach of contract between two businesses.
