April is Fair Housing Month.

A time to reflect on the long history of housing discrimination in the United States — and how its impact still shapes housing access and affordability today.

It has only been 58 years since the passage of the Fair Housing Act, which made housing discrimination illegal.

But making discrimination illegal didn’t automatically erase it.

The legacy of redlining, steering, and systemic inequities continues to influence who has access to opportunity, wealth-building, and stable housing.

Fair housing is not just history — it’s present-day responsibility.

Last week, I attended the NYSAR Mid-Winter Business Conference — my first time in 15+ years as a licensed Realtor®, and it was truly meaningful and inspiring. I was honored to speak on a panel representing the Long Island Board of Realtors as the 2025 Chair of our former DEI Committee, now the Membership Engagement Committee.

Advocacy has always been important to me, and serving on our local board’s Government Committee has shown me just how deeply policy decisions affect housing and our communities.

In today’s climate, it’s more important than ever for Realtors® to stay engaged at every level to protect affordable housing, homeownership, and sustainable communities.

Congratulations to Melissa Gomez, Moses Seram, and Nathasha Williams on your well-deserved recognitions, and thank you to everyone who represented our board throughout the week.

Proud to stand with professionals committed to integrity, service, and a mission bigger than the transaction.

What an amazing year of professional growth and development. This marked my final event of the month attended in my role as 2025 Chair of the Long Island Board of Realtors Membership Engagement Committee (formerly the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee). While I’ve been subtly involved over the years, the past few have truly allowed me to deepen my leadership skills and strengthen my advocacy work.

I’m excited to continue this journey, especially after being accepted into the NYSAR Leadership Academy for 2026. I’m incredibly grateful for the executive board members and leadership at LIBOR whose support and collaboration have played a meaningful role in my growth within the real estate industry.

Cheers to continued growth, leadership, and impact in the professional realm.

Last week was both eventful and rewarding on many levels. Juggling multiple responsibilities at once can sometimes bring moments of anxiety, but it also creates space for growth. This past week reminded me that I am capable, resilient, and able to find balance even when the pace is fast.

Sometimes the best confidence boost comes not from the easy weeks, but from the ones that challenge us and then we must be reminded to give ourself grace.
