Did you know?
Notarization is required for many of life's most critical transactions. We notarize over 1.25 billion papers per year as a group. While this is a large number of notarizations, some people have only notarized a few documents in their life and are unsure why a stranger needs to witness them sign a document. The answer is somewhat simple: A notary offers validity to the signatures and in many cases makes it difficult for fraudulent activities to occur.
Notarization serves three purposes:
1. To ensure the person signing a document is properly identified
2. To ensure the intended person signs the document under their own free will
3. And, to ensure the transaction can be independently verified after the fact
Notarization is a system to prevent fraud and notary publics are
front line officers in that battle.
