A real estate license tells you what someone is permitted to do. The REALTOR® Code of Ethics tells you what they have promised to do.

Every REALTOR® agent holds both. The license comes from the state. The pledge comes with membership in the National Association of REALTORS®. It covers duties owed to clients, to fellow professionals, and to the public.
