Same case. Same client. Very different result.

Before coming to Poe Law, this client’s prior attorney recommended settling his workers’ compensation claim for $50,250.

After Poe Law took over, we reviewed the case from the beginning and conducted our own individualized assessment. That evaluation identified additional benefits through the Maryland Subsequent Injury Fund that had not previously been pursued.

The result:

Employer/Insurer: $326,482.00
Subsequent Injury Fund: $48,262.14
Total Recovery: $374,744.14

That’s $324,494.14 more than the prior attorney’s recommended settlement.

Shawn Poe’s path to founding Poe Law has shaped the way he represents his clients today. He began his career working in the construction industry throughout Maryland before enlisting in the United States Marine Corps in 2000. He later deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, earning numerous awards and recognitions for his service, including the Combat Action Ribbon. These experiences helped build the strong work ethic, determination, and commitment to standing up for others that he brings to his clients today.

After completing his enlistment Shawn graduated with honors from University of California, Berkeley before returning home to Maryland and earning his law degree from the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

As the founder of Poe Law, Shawn focuses his practice on workers’ compensation and personal injury, representing injured workers and accident victims throughout Maryland and beyond.

MEET THE TEAM MONDAY | Poe Law is Growing!

We are incredibly excited to welcome Dominic Piazza to the Poe Law team!

Dominic represents clients in workers’ compensation and personal injury matters throughout Maryland and is admitted to practice law in both Maryland and North Carolina. Before joining Poe Law, he gained experience with the Prince George’s County District Court and later in civil litigation representing individuals and businesses throughout Annapolis and Southern Maryland.

But Dominic's commitment to injured workers goes much deeper than his professional experience. His father, a Prince George’s County Police Officer, suffered catastrophic injuries after being attacked by a K-9 unit while on duty. Those injuries ultimately forced his father to retire from a career he loved. Dominic witnessed firsthand how a serious workplace injury can affect not only the injured worker, but their livelihood, their family, and their future. That experience shaped the attorney he is today.

Dominic has a particular passion for advocating for first responders, service members, and hardworking people from all walks of life who find themselves injured on the job. He brings compassion, clear communication, and determined advocacy to every client he represents.
