For those of us who love crisp mornings, cozy layers and anything warm and spiced, that season is almost here and it’s bringing some pretty awesome happenings along with it. We pulled together a few that caught our eye, with a whole lot more where these came from.

Did you know young sunflowers follow the sun? They start the day facing east, turn west as the sun moves across the sky, then reset overnight to face the next sunrise. It’s called heliotropism. Once they’re fully grown, they stop following the sun and stay facing east.

There’s a short window when Oregon corn, tomatoes, beans and herbs are all showing off at the same time. This is what you make with them. This month’s Local Flavor comes from Chef Roberto Almodovar and the Portland Farmers Market’s Chef in the Market series: a bright Summer Succotash Salad with smoky paprika aioli.

Want to make it? DM us and we’ll send the full recipe your way.

Opening September 5 at the Portland Art Museum, The Stars We Do Not See: Australian Indigenous Art is the largest exhibition of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art ever presented in North America, with 147 works by more than 100 artists.

Even better, Portland is the only West Coast stop.

The exhibition runs through January 3, 2027, so there’s plenty of time to see it, but we’re calling this one out early. Add it to your fall list.

Hillsboro has a lot more going on than Intel and a drive out Highway 26.

There’s an interesting mix here: old neighborhoods and brand-new ones, a historic downtown, serious food and beer, farmland just beyond the city limits, and some of the biggest names in tech quietly powering a huge piece of the local economy. It’s a place where Silicon Forest meets Oregon roots, and that combination makes Hillsboro worth a closer look.
We pulled together the bigger picture, from how Hillsboro grew to what it’s like to live, work and play there today.

The Full Sturgeon Moon got a dramatic upgrade from a deep partial lunar eclipse, bringing that almost-blood-moon glow to the night sky.

What does $500K–$700K look like around the Portland metro? Maybe it’s weekends exploring Hillsboro’s parks and nature trails, a little more country feel in Sherwood, life near the lake in Lake Oswego, or views and newer neighborhoods in Happy Valley.

Same metro. Very different ways to live. We’re taking you around Portland + the surrounding communities to see what’s on the market and what makes each place worth a look.

The Portland market is giving us a little bit of everything right now. July cooled from June, with 12.5% fewer homes going pending and 5.1% fewer new listings hitting the market. But zoom out to last year and the story changes: new listings are actually up 2.5%, and closed sales jumped 8.1%.

Buyers also have more breathing room, with inventory climbing to 3.3 months, while homes are taking an average of 54 days to sell. And despite all the headlines about the market shifting, prices have barely budged. The average sale price through July is $618,500, up just 0.5% from last year.

So, what kind of market is this? A selective one.

There are more choices, more competition and less urgency across the board, but the homes that hit the sweet spot of price, condition and location are still moving.

Looking to make a move, curious what all this means for you, or want to see the full report? Comment or send a DM "stats" for the breakdown.

What's filling your harvest basket right now?

Bonus points if you can spot the one imposter that definitely didn't come from the backyard.
