Every life lost in service was a whole world—�a world of stories, of potential, of people left behind. On Memorial Day, we don’t glorify war—we hold space for the deep cost of it. At Narwhal, we believe in community, care, and impact.�
And we remember that those we honor today didn’t just die for abstract ideals—they died with dreams, with names, with people who loved them.

Some served in silence, hiding parts of who they were. Some stood tall as q***r, trans, Black, Brown, Indigenous— braving not just battlefields but bigotry.
�If they were willing to risk their lives for this country, then their full identities must be honored—not erased.

So we reflect, not just with silence,�but with purpose—by helping to build a world worthy of their sacrifice. May their memories guide our mission, and may we never take their lives or their fight for granted.

Welcome, Tarn Faith, our Summer 2026 Community Business Law Fellow!

Tarn, a JD candidate from a Lewis and Clark Law School, began his career in youth advocacy, an experience that inspired a commitment to pursuing law and serving others through legal work. During law school, Tarn explored several areas of practice, including criminal law while working with the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office. That role provided valuable experience in litigation, public service, and community-focused advocacy.

Tarn later transitioned into contract and business law, spending a summer with the Small Business Legal Clinic, where Tarn worked closely with small businesses and entrepreneurs on a variety of legal matters. Tarn also completed a capstone paper focused on Oregon Fair WorkWeek Act and its impact on workers and employers across the state.

Fun facts: Outside of the legal field, Tarn enjoys cooking, playing chess, and spending time with his cat named Tem.

Friday, May 15 is the deadline to sign the letter to stabilize Oregon’s Nonprofit and Community Service ecosystem!

Nonprofits are essential to how our communities function, and right now they are at risk. Across Oregon, organizations delivering housing, healthcare, food access, and other critical services are facing rising demand, unstable funding, delayed payments, and increasing administrative burdens.

These challenges reflect a system that relies on nonprofits without providing the coordinated support needed to sustain them. If nonprofits destabilize, services do not shift elsewhere. They disappear.
