An interesting look at the housing market as we head into fall.
There are a lot of moving pieces right now — inventory, home prices, mortgage rates and even the strength of the job market all play a role in determining what buyers can afford and how sellers should position their homes.
Mortgage rates are still hovering in the mid-6% range, but this week should give us some additional insight into where the market may be headed next.
For buyers and sellers, I think the bigger takeaway is this: real estate is becoming increasingly local and increasingly price-sensitive. The days of simply putting a home on the market and assuming it will sell are behind us in many areas. At the same time, buyers who have been sitting on the sidelines may find more choices and negotiating room than they’ve had in several years.
Worth a read if you’re thinking about buying, selling, or just curious about where the housing market goes from here.
