This week, Solkoff Legal submitted the completed 2026–2027 edition of Elder Law to our editors at Thomson Reuters.
For our firm, this is far more than another publication deadline. It is the continuation of a legacy.
More than 25 years ago, Jerome Ira Solkoff began writing what would become one of the leading authorities on elder law. He did much of that work exactly as depicted here: sitting in his recliner, writing by hand, surrounded by papers—and supported always by his wife, Doreen.
This is not a self-published book created to market a law practice. Elder Law Practice Guide is a nationally recognized legal authority published by Thomson Reuters, the nation’s largest legal publisher. For decades, attorneys and other professionals have relied upon it to understand and practice in this complex and consequential field.
Jerome began the work. As of 2007, his son, Scott, carried it forward. And for this newest edition, Scott worked alongside Attorney Brandon Arkin and Scott’s son, Jacob—the third generation of Solkoff attorneys—to review, revise, and update the book for today’s elder law practitioners.
The tools have changed. Pen and paper have given way to computers and collaborative editing. The law has evolved enormously. But the purpose remains the same: to help lawyers serve older adults, people with disabilities, and the families who depend upon them.
We are deeply proud of the role this book has played in establishing Solkoff Legal as one of the nation’s leading elder law authorities. Even more, we are proud that the work Jerome began continues—not only in the pages of this book, but through generations of attorneys committed to the principle he taught us:
“You do well by doing good.”
