Florida notaries: are you completing **HSMV Form 82042 VIN Verification** correctly?

In this quick tutorial, I show you the section Florida notaries need to complete, where to print your commissioned name, where to sign, where the notary seal goes, and one of the most common mistakes I see when VIN verifications are returned to us.

Florida VIN verification requires a **physical inspection of the vehicle**, including verification of the VIN information before completing Part B of the form.

# # # Quick Notary Checklist:

✓ Physically inspect the vehicle
✓ Verify the VIN
✓ Confirm the vehicle information
✓ Complete Part B
✓ Enter the date
✓ Print/type/stamp your commissioned name in the designated name field
✓ Sign in the Notary’s Signature field
✓ Place your notary seal in the designated seal area

And remember: the odometer declaration in Part A is completed by the appropriate vehicle owner/purchaser—not simply substituted by the notary completing Part B.

Noble Notary Signing Service coordinates mobile notaries throughout Florida for VIN verification and other signing services.

🏡 **Will vs. Trust: What’s the Difference?**

A lot of families know they need an estate plan—but aren’t sure whether that means a **will, a trust, or both.**

Here’s the simple distinction:

📜 **A Will**
✅ Directs how certain assets are distributed after death
✅ Can name guardians for minor children
✅ Names the person who will handle your estate
✅ Generally goes through probate
✅ Usually becomes part of the probate court record

🏦 **A Revocable Living Trust**
✅ Can operate during your lifetime and after death
✅ May help properly funded assets avoid probate
✅ Can provide instructions for managing trust assets if you become incapacitated
✅ Generally offers more privacy than probate
✅ Can provide more detailed control over how and when assets are distributed

One of the biggest misconceptions is that a trust automatically replaces a will.

In many estate plans, **they work together.**

The better question isn’t necessarily:

“Do I need a will OR a trust?”

It may be:

👉 **“What combination of documents fits my family, assets, and goals?”**

🏡 Estate Planning Is More Than Just Having a Will

Most families know they should have a will.

But a complete estate plan usually involves much more than deciding who receives your property when you die.

A solid plan may also address:

✅ Who can make healthcare decisions if you become incapacitated
✅ Who can handle financial matters if you can’t
✅ Who should care for minor children
✅ Whether beneficiary designations are up to date
✅ Whether certain assets can avoid probate
✅ Who will serve as executor or personal representative
✅ Whether a trust makes sense for your family
✅ Where important documents and account information are stored

One of the easiest ways to get started is to make an inventory of your assets and important documents, then work through the list one item at a time.

📲 Share it with a spouse, parent, sibling, or friend who keeps saying, “I really need to get my affairs in order.”

🏠 Want to leave your home to your children without creating unnecessary problems?

A lot of homeowners assume the easiest solution is simply adding an adult child to the deed.

But that can create complications involving:

❌ The child’s creditors
❌ Divorce or lawsuits
❌ Loss of control
❌ Tax consequences
❌ Problems selling or refinancing later

Two estate-planning tools may offer a cleaner way to transfer real estate while avoiding probate:

✅ Transfer-on-Death Deed — available in many states and often ideal for a relatively simple estate.

✅ Revocable Living Trust — available nationwide and often better when you have multiple assets, multiple beneficiaries, blended-family considerations, or want greater control over how property is distributed.

And in certain states—including Florida, Texas, and Michigan—another option may be an enhanced life estate deed, commonly called a Lady Bird Deed.

The right choice depends on your state, your property, your family situation, and your overall estate plan.
