When a home is vacant during probate, small issues can quickly turn into expensive problems.

A plumbing leak, water heater issue, toilet leak, or electrical problem may go unnoticed if no one is living at the property.

One simple tip: check the obvious areas and consider turning the water off at the main valve when the home is vacant.

Also, make sure the insurance policy matches the current status of the home. Many inherited properties still have an occupied homeowner’s insurance policy, even though the home is now vacant.
