Meigs County Advocate, Shelley Kemper is attending Advanced Academy Basics for Crime Victim Services, August 8-12, 2016. The Ohio Attorney Generals' Office has designed a program to focus on the expansion of knowledge and training for victim service providers. The BASICS is a one week intensive training course for victim advocates and is held at the Ohio Police Officer Training Academy, in London, Ohio.

This is the follow-up information for the 2015 end of the year report for Meigs County Prosecutor, Colleen S. Williams, Victim Assistance Program.
The Meigs County Victim Assistance Program is a project of Meigs County Prosecutor, Colleen S. Williams. The program is grant funded by the Ohio Attorney Generals’ Office for crime victim services. The grant money is from defendants that pay into a reparation fund specifically for crime victim service programs. Our program has 1 full time advocate/director and a full time secretary/advocate. Last year the Ohio Attorney General awarded Meigs County a special mini grant for National Crime Victims’ Rights week Program and activities, (NOVA) National Organization for Victim Assistance Training in Dallas, TX. And 2 days in May (Ohio Attorney General Trainings).
• In 2015, Meigs County had 525 new victims affected by crime and were served through the Meigs County Victims Assistance Program. For 2015 our Crime Victim Services did:
• 173 crisis response
• 2,352 letters mailed
• 80 referrals for other social services
• 2,743 follow up on court hearings
• 101 requests for Civil Protection Orders
• 97 victims eligible for Ohio Victim of Crime Compensation Program (This is an application process and is a secondary provider for physical and emotional harm caused by the crime and funerals for homicide victims.)
• 336 County Court Hearings with victims attended
• 1224 Common Pleas Hearings with victims attended

On January 19, 2016, 34 year old, from Middleport, Ohio was continued on Community Control with an additional sanction that defendant successfully complete the SEPTA Correctional Facility in Nelsonville, Ohio. Defendant had previously been convicted of Non-Support of Dependents and Attempted Escape.

On January 5, 2016, Karrell D. Lemley, 46 year old, from Middleport, Ohio was sentenced to twenty-four (24) months in prison, on two (2) counts of Trafficking in He**in. This case was investigated by the Gallia-Meigs Major Crimes Task Force.

For The Record On January 6, 2016, Matthew R. Myers, 35 year old, from Vinton Ohio was sentenced to (11) eleven months in prison for a Community Control Violation. Defendant Myers was sentenced in November 2015 to Community Control for the charge of Improper Handling of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle, A Felony of the Fifth Degree.
