Land is never just a transaction.
That was one of my biggest takeaways from this weekend’s community learning experience in Indigenous Business Environments in Community, part of my MBA program at SFU Beedie School of Business.
I’m grateful for the learning shared by Chief Ian Campbell of the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) Nation and Alexia McKinnon, Director of Indigenous Programs.
As both an MBA student and a real estate professional, this experience gave me a lot to think about. It reminded me to look beyond market value, zoning, and development potential, and to think more deeply about land, history, governance, community, and responsibility.
It was also a great opportunity to connect, learn, and network with classmates, leaders, and professionals who care about the future of business and community.
Grateful for the experience and the reminder that good leadership starts with humility, listening, and asking better questions.
