Two weeks later, Robert and Patricia walked out of my office with peace of mind.

Their new trust—properly drafted, properly executed.

That evening, Robert walked next door.

Tom was grilling burgers.

"Hey man, remember that trust you gave me?"

Tom flipped a patty. "Yeah, you get it done?"

Robert took a breath.

"I used it. Signed it. Then found out I'd left everything to Linda instead of Patricia."

Tom's smile vanished. "What?"

"Yeah. Linda's name was still on page four. I almost gave my wife's inheritance to yours."

Tom went pale. "Wow. That's..."

"It's not your fault—I should've read it closer. But it got me thinking.
When's the last time YOU had your documents reviewed?

My attorney said I should review mine every year or so. And you gave me that template last summer..."

Tom set down the spatula. "It's been... seven years? Maybe eight?"

Robert handed him my card. "Might be worth a call."

Things change. Life happens. Your estate plan should keep up.

Dead documents don’t help the living. People think estate plans are just for after they’re gone. But the real trouble often starts while you’re still here, and not fully in control.

Most Texas families think they’re covered… until it’s too late.

A power of attorney only works if your parent can still sign it. In Texas, once they can’t, the courts decide, and that’s a much tougher process.

There’s a simple Texas-based strategy to protect your loved ones, but most families miss it.

Watch this to see what actually protects Texas families.

Getting something too soon can ruin it. Most people think estate planning is just about dividing stuff. But without clear rules, the wrong timing can cause more harm than good.

What happens when someone dies… and the will is nowhere to be found?

Most people think a will automatically protects their family. In Texas, losing it can flip everything upside down.

There’s a hidden rule in Texas law that can erase a person’s final wishes, unless you know how to fight it.

You need to hear this before you assume your family is protected. Hit play.

"You just avoided a major disaster."

Robert and Patricia sat across from me after he explained how his neighbor's wife ended up as his beneficiary.

Now I needed them to understand what they narrowly avoided.

I slid a legal pad across my desk.

"You die in your sleep tonight, Robert. Linda Thompson—your neighbor's wife—inherits everything. The house, the savings, your retirement accounts. All of it."

Patricia's hand went to her mouth.

"Patricia gets nothing. Your kids from your first marriage call their attorney. Patricia's kids call theirs. Everyone's in court, burning through money, fighting over crumbs."

"Years of depositions, motions, appeals."

"And at the end?" I paused. "Maybe Patricia wins. Maybe the court decides you made a mistake. But it costs tens of thousands in legal fees and years of your family tearing each other apart."

The room was silent.

Robert reached for Patricia's hand.

"Because I didn't read four pages."

I kept my voice gentle.

"Because you didn't know what to look for. That's why I'm here—to make sure it never happens."

That paper you thought solved everything? It just starts the court process. Most people think having a Will keeps things simple. But in most cases, it’s the reason your family ends up in probate.

Our Story

Plano, Texas Nursing Home Medicaid, Elder Law, Estate Planning, Probate, and Asset Protection.

We help you build and protect your legacy.

When the firm started, we focused on general estate planning needs, but as we grew we realized that seniors were being preyed upon and families were not getting the information they needed to make the best decisions for their parents' care.

As a result, we began helping families discover how they were going to help cover their parents' long-term nursing home care in 2009. Since then, we have collectively helped save our clients' millions dollars. It is never too early or too late to start planning - even if your parents are already in the nursing home or you have been told that they have too much money.
