Summer can be the perfect time to begin a new chapter.

If you and your spouse qualify for a no-contest divorce and hope to be divorced before the new school year begins in fall, now is the time to file. In Texas, there is a mandatory 60-day waiting period before a divorce can be finalized — but it is better to begin the process now rather than waiting until the 61st day to start.

A no-contest divorce generally means:
• All terms and issues are agreed upon by both parties;
• Both parties are willing to sign the Final Decree of Divorce and
• The responding party will sign a Waiver of Service and you will sign an Affidavit of Prove-Up.

Filing during the summer can allow families time to adjust, settle routines, and find or restore a new normal before school starts again.
