People usually put off estate planning out of busyness, uncertainty about where to start, or the belief that there will be more time, not because they do not care.

But estate planning is about more than deciding who receives what. It is also about naming the people you trust to handle financial matters, make medical decisions if you cannot, and carry out your wishes with as little confusion as possible.

Documents like a will, powers of attorney, and advance directives can bring structure to moments that otherwise feel overwhelming for families. An estate planning attorney can help you understand which documents fit your situation, put them in place correctly, and create a plan that reflects your goals and values.

With the right legal guidance, your loved ones are not left guessing. They have clarity, direction, and a stronger sense of what comes next when it matters most.

June marks Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, a meaningful reminder that planning ahead is an act of care for the people who matter most.

As families navigate the realities of aging, legal documents like powers of attorney, health care directives, and estate plans can provide guidance when a loved one may no longer be able to speak for themselves.

Taking these steps now can help reduce stress later and make difficult moments a little more manageable.

This month, encourage someone you care about to begin the conversation and put a plan in place.

Age-gap couples often face unique estate planning considerations, especially when partners are in different life stages or have prior family obligations.

Without a clear plan, Texas intestacy laws control how assets are distributed, which may not reflect your wishes and can lead to unnecessary disputes.

A thoughtful estate plan can help protect both partners, address children from prior relationships, clarify beneficiary designations, and plan for long-term care needs.

No matter your age difference, protecting each other starts with proactive planning.

Special needs planning and guardianship work together to protect a loved one’s future.

A special needs trust can help provide financial support without jeopardizing important benefits like Medicaid or SSI. It allows funds to be used for things that improve quality of life while preserving eligibility for government programs.

In some cases, guardianship may be necessary to ensure that medical, financial, or living decisions are handled in your loved one’s best interest. The goal is always protection with dignity.

Putting the right plan in place can give families clarity and peace of mind for the road ahead. ✨

So proud to support the Wellness Center for Older Adults, a nonprofit that has been serving the community for 47 years. Women Making a Difference in Plano presented a donation to help support their programs and services, and it was such a meaningful moment to be part of. 💛

It is inspiring to see the impact this organization continues to make for older adults, caregivers, and families in our community.

Grateful for the people and programs helping older adults feel supported, seen, and cared for.

As you spend time with family and friends, we hope you’ll take a quiet moment to reflect on the meaning of this day and to hold in your heart the families who have lost someone they love.

This is a good reminder that kindness is something we can choose first. The way we respond when someone is short with us. The way we stay calm when a conversation feels tense. The way we offer grace instead of matching frustration.

Today is a good reminder to lead with compassion, even when it is not easy.

Because one kind choice can change the entire tone of a moment. 💛

Estate planning for a child with special needs requires thoughtful planning for both the future and any period when a parent may become incapacitated. 💙

A strong plan often includes:

✔️ A Special Needs Trust (SNT) to help support long-term care and financial stability
✔️ Naming a guardian in your will
✔️ A power of attorney document so someone you trust can make decisions on behalf of your child if you’re incapacitated
✔️ Clear planning for caregiver services, living arrangements, and detailed care instructions

A properly structured plan can help protect your child’s access to support, provide for needs benefits may not cover, and create more security for the future. 🤍

Save this for future reference or share it with someone planning for a loved one with special needs.

Grief changes everything, and legal planning can feel especially heavy during that season.

I’m grateful when someone trusts me to guide them through updating their estate plan after a move, and to do it with care, patience, and clear explanations. Thank you for the kind words and the trust. 💛

If you have more than one child with special needs, it's important to think through the individual needs of your children.

Each child may require a different level of long term financial support, and leaving assets directly to a child can unintentionally affect eligibility for needs based government benefits.

A thoughtful plan helps protect their care, their stability, and their future. 🛡️💙
