Congrats to the Lady Patriots Softball team, who advanced to the 5A PIAA Semifinals today. Tori Para with the walk off hit into the gap to score 2 runs. Final score was 3-2 over defending state champion Lampeter-Strasburg. Patriot Proud!

Congrats to Brandon Matthews for his one stroke victory today, claiming his first Korn Ferry Tour win. Great things are to come for the former Pittston Area and Temple grad. And he did it in style, by carding two birds and an eagle on his last three holes. He's currently at the top of the 2022 Korn Ferry points list, and the top 25 at season's end automatically qualify for the 2023 PGA Tour.

My day 6 post supporting LOCAL, family run businesses, mentions The Tipsy Turtle.

What I didn't know was that I apparently stole this idea of bringing attention to these local businesses from, as my kids would say "Tipsy". Seems that during this pandemic, they've been supporting other businesses just like theirs. See below. They also support the Community through their Foundation year round.

Oh, and by the way, GREAT WINGS always at the Turtle. If you can't find something you like on their fantastic menu, you aren't trying. They have three convenient locations: Avoca, Jenkins, and Swoyersville.

It's late, but I'm determined to continue posting from now until years' end to promote the idea of supporting local small and family run businesses in Northeastern Pennsylvania.

Tonight I mention Mad Tees and it's owner Maudeen Ratchford. Located on Main Street in Dupont, Mad Tees does all kinds of screen printing, embroidery and produces various types of promotional products.

I would have no way of knowing exact numbers, but I'd imagine that Maudeen and her staff have donated tens of thousands of free or discounted shirts for charitable causes.

Only a few days from Christmas, so I'll be squeezing in several "Support Local Business" posts over the next few days.

Today I give props to one of my favorite places in NEPA: Napoli's Pizza. Their pizza shop is the definition of "Family Business". Antonio and Tiffany Costagliola run the shop with the help of their three daughters, Sofia, Maia and Nadia. I can remember the girls being 8 or 9 years old, and coming into the dining room to take my order.

Hardworking doesn't begin to describe the Costagliola family.

There is lots of great pizza throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania. But for my money, the Grandma's Pizza at Napoli is the very best of them all.

Napoli's is located on Main Street in Pittston.

I'm a little behind on my posts in support of local businesses, so I'm posting a few today. My second restaurant post today asks you to support Callahan's Cafe and Coffee House.

Michael Callahan offers fantastic lunch offerings, including soups, salads and some of the best sandwiches in town. I don't drink coffee, but the quality and variety of java Mike offers is unparalleled in the area. Callahan's also specializes in catering, and can handle parties both large and small. He also offers Penn State Creamery Ice Cream.

Callahan's Cafe is located on Main Street in Pittston. Help Callahan's have a successful 2021.

Missed making a post yesterday, as Christmas duties called. Today I will mention a few businesses in the food and beverage industry, which have been hit very hard by the pandemic.

The Red Mill Tavern has been a fixture in the Pittston community for over half a century. Over the past few years, owners Rob and Linda Johnson have extensively updated and renovated. They have awesome food. But even more significantly, they have always given back and supported fundraising efforts of many, many charitable groups.

Stop in to the Red Mill for a drink or a great meal once the pandemic restrictions have been lifted. I highly recommend the Red Mill Sandwich.

Day 3 of the 12 days of local businesses.... Computer Visionaries, Inc. (also known as CVI). In business locally since 1992, CVI offers a wide range of IT services, too numerous to list here. Owned and operated by David Flaim and Amy Flaim, who are great at what they do, and also wonderful people. Yesterday I posted that I wanted to draw some attention on my page to some great local businesses. I encourage you support these businesses this holiday season and throughout the year. Today I give kudos to Sorick's Fine Jewelry. Sorick's is a full service jeweler, performing all types of repair while also offering one of a kind pieces of fine jewelry. They have been family owned and operated for over 30 years. They are located on the Avenue in Wyoming, just steps from the intersection with 8th Street. I recently had my wife's original engagement ring diamond re-set and made into a pendant at Sorick's and I was absolutely thrilled with the result.

Since moving my law practice to Pittston 5 years ago, I have come to have great appreciation for the small businesses in our Community. People who work very hard to make their businesses run, with challenges small and large standing in their path to success, every day.

Then Covid hit them. Like a ton of bricks.

So this holiday season, from now until Christmas, I'm going to use my page to highlight some of these great businesses. Please support these and other local businesses and help them during this pandemic. There is a good chance that you will become a regular customer once you see what great products and customer service these businesses offer.

Today goes a shout out to Hair Color Studio. Owned and operated Bob Licata, Hair Color Studio is located on the Pittston Bypass where the Bypass meets the top of William Street. Bob has been in business at that location for 10 years, but has been serving the community on both sides of the river for the past 40 years. Bob and his staff offer cuts and styles as well as hair coloring, for women, men and children. As the sign out front says, they are a full service salon. Bob has been cutting my hair for 20 plus years, and has taken care of the hair care needs of 4 generations of my family.
