We were so happy to welcome so many colleagues, friends, business partners, family members, lawyers, and judges to Goldsmith & Ogrodowski’s 20th Anniversary Celebration last evening.

It was so heartwarming to see everyone and look back on how it all began when Rich and Fred had burgers at Pittsburgh’s Union Grill so many years ago and shared what they’d really like to do one day if they had their druthers.

We are so thankful to our wonderful legal assistant and office manager, Heather Trainer, who has been with us from the start and has always been able to locate the witness no one else could, to find the records that made the difference, to always balance the books, and who has always shown such empathy to our clients.

And we thank our clients who have placed their trust in us and whom we have had the honor of representing.

We shall carry on with humility and the same integrity and hard work you have known us for.

Anybody using AI in their legal practices? The G&O team today attended a talk about AI, its risks and rewards, at the annual luncheon of the Pittsburgh Legal Administrators Association. Our office administrator, Heather Trainer, has been a regular and active member of the PLAA since we started our firm 19 years ago. It was great to meet and chat with other lawyers and legal administrators to compare notes, particularly on new technologies, case management systems, document management systems, and AI. Super talk on AI by legal malpractice defense lawyers Bethann Lloyd and Aaliyah Hyacinthe of Pittsburgh firm, DiBella Weinheimer.

Mediations should not be a surprise party. That was my advice as an experienced plaintiff’s lawyer, defense lawyer, and mediator. Everyone — lawyers, clients, insurance adjusters, corporate rep’s, and the mediator — has to be well prepared before a mediation starts, otherwise it’s not going to be fruitful. It was such an honor to be invited to be part of the panel discussion yesterday for the Allegheny County Bar Association ADR Committee’s live CLE webinar, “A Successful Mediation - Federal Court Perspective.” Meryl Macklin, experienced mediator with
Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP, moderated the panel which also included U. S. District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania Chief Judge Mark. R. Hornak, Judge W. Scott Hardy, Judge Robert J. Colville, Magistrate Judge Kezia O. L. Taylor, and Pittsburgh plaintiff’s employment law attorney Colleen E. Ramage of Ramage Lykos, LLC.

On the Mississippi River aboard the Port of New Orleans fireboat, the GENERAL ROY S. KELLEY, during the Inland Waters & Towing and Marine Insurance & General Average Committees’ joint meeting during the Maritime Law Association of the United States’ 125th year and Fall meetings in New Orleans today.

Great to be back in New Orleans for the Fall meetings of the Maritime Law Association of the U.S. Yesterday, during the joint meeting of the Marine Torts & Casualties and Government Counsel Committees (I chair the former), we had a fantastic talk by a panel of local experts including Captain Louis M. “Toby” Wattigney Jr., President, New Orleans-Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots Association, on the challenges of navigating a large ship through the strong currents, twists, and turns of the Mississippi River (see video below). Also on the panel: maritime lawyer David M. Flotte of Salley, Hite, Mercer & Resor, LLC, LCDR Christopher W. Booth, Director of the U.S. Coast Guard, Lower Mississippi River Vessel Traffic Service, Joseph Carson, Senior Captain, Crescent Towing and Salvage Co., Inc., and Benjamin Morvant, Senior Operations Manager, Crescent Towing and Salvage Co., Inc. Big thanks to David Flotte for helping put this all together!
