🍂🏡 FALL HOME MAINTENANCE CHECKLIST 🏡🍂

As the seasons change, take some time to prepare your home for fall and winter! Here’s a helpful checklist to keep your home safe, comfortable, and ready for colder weather:

🔲 Inspect your furnace or heat pump to ensure that it can achieve maximum efficiency.

🔲 Schedule to have the chimney serviced and cleaned.

🔲 Clean your gutters and downspouts throughout the season.

🔲 Repair any window cracks or holes in weather stripping or caulking. If the gap is bigger than the width of a nickel, reapply exterior caulk.

🔲 Check to make sure your thermostat works properly.

🔲 Check crawl space for flooding after the first long rainfall.

🔲 Make sure you have new batteries in all flashlights and place them where they can easily be found around the house.

🔲 Have your lawn-irrigation system professionally drained/winterized.

🔲 Turn your gas fireplace pilot light ON.

🔲 Make sure your attic and crawl spaces have adequate insulation.

🔲 Continually check your air vents to make sure they aren’t blocked.

🔲 Clean out the bathroom fan/filter.

🔲 Test all smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

🔲 Make sure you have at least one fire extinguisher on each floor of the house and in the garage.

🔲 Make a fire escape plan for your house and take time to review it with all family members.

🔲 Disconnect garden hoses and drain water still in faucets. If you do not have frost-proof faucets, turn the shut-off valve to OFF inside your home.

🍁 A little fall maintenance now can help prevent bigger problems later! 🍁

Selling a Home with kids is nearly impossible!

If this statement speaks to you, I’m here to ease your fears.

Check out my “Top 5 Best Tips To Sell A Home With Kids At Home.”

1. Declutter and depersonalize your home.

I can not stress this enough. The more you declutter and pack up now, the less you have to do later.

You want to remove anything that may prevent a potential buyer from being able to visualize themselves living in that space. If you aren’t ready to part with items, rent a storage unit and load it up.

Here might be some items to include: toys, play kitchens, family photos, kid's posters hanging on walls, any bulky out-dated furniture, any old boxes, and any misc. items, awards, memorabilia, etc.

2. Involve your children in the process.

Ask the kids which items they might want to keep but promise to not throw away.

Give kids choices on keeping one toy or another.

Let the kids know you will be donating to others and helping others that don't have as much as you.

Get the kids excited about the new house and all the new features- a bigger yard, a special play room just for the toys.

3. Deep clean everything.

Make sure to look up to the ceiling first, and work your way down the walls to the floor. So many boogies, finger prints, paint marks, and maybe even slime.

I love using a Magic Eraser for most things. Cleanliness will go a long way and always makes a great first impression.

It will also be so much easier to manage once there is a deep clean done.

4. Get the house ready for a showing.

Make sure to have a game plan set in place because sometimes you may only have a short time to get out the door.

Here are some suggestions to get you out quickly:

✔️load up a clothes basket with toys and knick knacks and be ready to stuff the car and trunk with these items, if the house needs to be shown quickly.
✔️wipe down kitchen counters and bath countertops
✔️put dirty dishes in dishwasher
✔️empty trash containers
✔️sweep floors
✔️turn on all lights, open curtains and blinds
✔️make beds
✔️gather kids in one room while you prepare house
✔️put kids in the car with snacks as you do a last minute walk through

5. BRIBE them!!!(joking kind of, but not really)

Take them to the park or better yet, have them cooperate and tell them you will take them for ice cream
