Just a little over 6 years ago I moved my wife and son from the suburbs of NW Phoenix into the heart of the city to get a taste of the urban life. We were tired of living in a cookie-cutter neighborhoods. Trying to connect with our neighbors was impossible because the garage door syndrome. We were longing for something different...a deeper connection with community, and culture.
We longed for a deeper connection to the city and to our neighbors. After moving into The Core we fell in love with the city life. The light rail became our friend, and our neighbors were actually neighborly!! We started hanging out as a family more, and discovering what it was that we truly loved. We love to eat, experience art, go to the symphony, and discover...and that’s what we did. We found that The Corridor filled a void in who we were.
The first home we lived in The Core was in the Del Norte historic district. This is a small little neighborhood surrounded by Encanto Park and Golf Course. We loved the historic homes, but we soon found the rental we were living in was not ideal. The deck was falling apart, and fruit rats made their way through the sewer pipes into the house through the toilet. Imagine your 4-year-old son running into the living room with his pants around his ankles screaming, “we have fish in the toilet, we have huge fish in the toilet!!” only to find out they were big-ass-fruit-rats!! We were move out of that place within a week. 🤣😂
After that house, we moved into a high-rise off of Central and Encanto (Called the Tapestry). We lived in the 5th floor facing downtown. The view was amazing, and we enjoyed our stay their, but we know it wasn’t our forever home. In less than 2 years we were ready to move on.
Our next home was an amazing find. I had just secured my real estate licence, and we were ready to BUY. For the first time in several years we were in a position to buy a house!! 😍🙌 We had been watching the market for weeks, and we liked a few properties, but nothing felt right until the property on 14th Dr just south of Glendale came on the market:14th
We fell in love with the 14th Dr house. It had a pool, a guest studio, and an amazing yard!! ❤😁We thought we were set here for a long time, but within a week of the purchase we had a sewer back-up. We found that the sewer had a major issue that wasn’t disclosed. That literally put a bad taste in our mouth that didn’t go away until we sold it less than 2 years later. During that time the market had gone up considerably, and we made some good money on the property...and yes, we did fix the sewer issue before we sold it.
After 14th Dr we moved into a cute condo off of Northern and Central. This was an amazing find, and perfectly situated right on the bridle path. We loved the location so much!! However, we didn’t realize how noisy Northern was. The noise really aggravated us 😖, and a little over a year we were ready to move.
At that time our son was heading into the 7th grade, and he wanted be be close to friends back in the NW Valley. So, we took the opportunity to cash out of the condo on Central and move back out to the suburbs.
Since we’ve been back in the suburbs...our hearts have been longing for the Corridor. Our journey back to the Corridor will happen, but in the meantime we are Exploring the Corridor and sharing our adventures with you. It is our goal to be informative and somewhat entertaining, and if you are moving from the Core or into the Core we would love to help you with the move.
We hope you love The Phoenix Central Corridor as much as we do, and we hope to see you Exploring The Corridor with us someday!!
