I recently lost my dear friend Dan to Chondrosarcoma. The Chondrosarcoma Foundation is featuring him in observance of International Chondrosarcoma Awareness Day today, February 6th. This is a day meant to bring education and awareness to this rare disease with no effective treatments other than surgery thus we are asking people to sign a petition to request more research and clinical trials. It is a rare cancer that ultimately cost Dan his life.

It was Dan’s wish to help others with this diagnosis so he joined the advisory board of the foundation last year.
In honor of Dan and his mission, the Foundation is establishing the Daniel B Hurley MD Endowment Fund https://csfshayna.org/endowment-fund/ which will assist Chondrosarcoma patients who receive denials of necessary treatment or care by enlisting legal assistance if necessary.

Hallam Law Group is thrilled to announce the winner of our 2023 Children of Incarcerated Parents Scholarship, John Tracy V! Additionally, we are excited to award $500 to five honorable mention candidates—Emily Pupillo, Kylee Castaneda, Samuel Alexander, Khidir Webster, and Kristian Wydysh. Congratulations to all of these winners and thank you to everyone who submitted essays. We were deeply impressed with the quality of the applications, and we look forward to continuing our support towards children of incarcerated parents as they pursue degrees and careers.

Descendants of Justice Hugo Black unveiled the portrait of Justice Black in the Hugo Black Courtroom of the Clay Country Courthouse October 15. The artist Simmie Knox grew up in Aliceville, Alabama and went on to become an acclaimed portrait artist, becoming the first African American artist to paint the official White House portrait of a president when he painted Bill Clinton's portrait. A large crowd filled the Hugo Black courtroom to pay tribute to the memory of Justice Black and reminisce about his family's Clay County roots. Photo credit: Gary Tramontina
