Unfortunately, I fight these issues all the time here in Arizona. Greedy "non-profit" hospitals refuse to bill health insurance or even worse, try get paid more than they are owed. Sadly, patients that don't have competent legal representation get ripped off every time.

Hospitals use century-old lien laws to bypass insurers and charge patients, especially poorer ones, the full amount.

In many urban areas, including Arizona cities, shared electronic scooters and bikes litter the sidewalks when they are not zipping by. You may have seen these scooters rented under brands Lime, Razor, Bird, Spin, Jump or Lyft. This new technology has resulted in a new set of traffic and public health problems. Those who ride these scooters and bikes believe that they are a fun and inexpensive way to get around urban areas, especially between public transportation stops, parking or Uber/Lyft drops. However, it is apparent that there are significant dangers involved.

I represent people injured due to someone else's negligence in electronic scooter and bike accidents.

I am often shocked that this misunderstanding of Arizona law still routinely comes up. I am still encountering bicyclists, motorists, police, insurance adjusters and sometimes lawyers who are confused about the law in Arizona on this issue. Bicycles can lawfully ride in either direction in a crosswalk and can ride in either direction on sidewalks (except in a few cities with strange ordinances prohibiting it or limiting it) in Arizona. I first wrote about this problem, five years ago Yield! - Bicycles in Crosswalks and on Sidewalks are the same as Pedestrians in Arizona. Even now, I have people that find this article that I wrote and contact me to discuss this issue.

I have successfully represented too many bicyclists who were initially blamed by police or insurance companies for riding their bicycles in the crosswalk. The law in Arizona is clear – bikes can lawfully ride in the crosswalk (in either direction).

In 1972, (I was a one year old) Arizona enacted minimum auto insurance liability limits of $15,000.00 for injury or death and $10,000.00 for property damage. Amazingly, these same limits remain this day. I have seen first hand, how this out-of-date policy has ruined lives.

Governor Doug Ducey vetoed a bipartisan bill to increase these limits modestly to $25,000 for injuries to one person, $50,000 for all injuries, and $25,000 for property damage.

He claims to be concerned about impact of the small price increase on low income Arizonans, but somehow based upon his track record, I doubt his sincerity. It appears that he is in the pocket of the lobbyists for the bottom-feeder insurance companies that sell these cheapo policies.

Legislation would have nearly doubled the required coverage. Governor was worried more people would fail to buy any insurance as a result.
