i’m sure your dad is awesome. You still need to hire a professional home inspector… and trust his area of expertise.
And the rules get bent alllllll the time, but take a look at your sales contract: only named parties to the transaction and their hired inspectors can be present at the subject property. It’s the no-parents clause.

Headlines about a downturn in the housing market are exaggerated. Market performance is regional. And we are lucky to live in a terrifically healthy real estate market. Areas of the Midwest and Gulf states are having a hard time of it: sagging demand, increased for foreclosures, and downward pressure on housing prices. In the mid-Atlantic where we live, demand continues to outpace inventory, home prices continue to appreciate, and the outlook for the next year is positive.
