As the cost of living escalates, the potential for a refund of pandemic-era IRS penalties carries "extra urgency ... for anyone, especially a low-income person," says Prof. Omeed Firouzi. But, he also urges caution: "Avoid [tax preparers] who purport to guarantee the IRS will pay ... If they are saying it’s definitely happening or making declarative sentences like that, that’s something to be concerned about."

Time’s running out to file for a pandemic-era refund that could get you thousands of dollars back

Professor Jules Epstein is the 2026 recipient of the Maureen Rowley Award from the Pennsylvania Innocence Project.

The award recognizes exceptional leadership in advancing justice and addressing wrongful convictions. Throughout his career, Professor Epstein has focused his scholarship, teaching, and casework on issues related to wrongful convictions, evidence, and criminal procedure.

Guests and presenters at the award ceremony included several people directly impacted by Professor Epstein's work. Lance Felder and LaFaye Gaskins, both wrongly convicted clients of the Pennsylvania Innocence Project, are pictured here with Professor Epstein, who made significant contributions to their cases. Lance was exonerated in 2013 and LaFaye was released in 2023.

Join us in celebrating this well-deserved recognition.

Commencement is about more than earning a degree, it’s about celebrating the people who helped make it possible. Behind every graduate is a community that supported them along the way.

Today, we recognize the people behind the scenes who encouraged, supported, and believed in our graduates every step of the journey.

To the family, friends, mentors, classmates, and loved ones who stood beside our 2026 graduates through every long day and late night, every challenge and every milestone...

Thank you for everything. ❤️🎓

Four speakers. Four perspectives. One unforgettable sendoff for the Temple Law Class of 2026. 🎓

Swipe through to hear from some of the ceremony’s principal speakers:

• Interim Kean Family Dean Kristen Murray, whose message to graduates, “I see you, all of you,” reflected on the late nights, early mornings, challenges, triumphs, and moments that shaped their law school experience, pledging that those moments will serve them well throughout their legal careers.

• Evening Division Speaker Nebi Mema, winner of the Tax Notes Annual Student Writing Competition, reflected on the importance of understanding one another across differences, recognizing that disagreement is not always about who is right or wrong, but can stem from different values, and encouraged graduates to seek common ground.

• Daytime Division Speaker Marco Granston, who received top honors as a member of the Temple Rosner National Trial Team, challenged graduates to meet the moment and remember that their responsibility extends beyond the practice of law, reminding his classmates, “The law at its best is not just rules and procedures, it is, at its core, about recognizing and appreciating human dignity.”

• Commencement Speaker, The Hon. Mitchell S. Goldberg, retired United States District Judge and former Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, reflected on the challenges facing the legal profession while expressing confidence that Temple Law graduates have never been in a better position to succeed than at this moment.

Congratulations again to the Class of 2026.
