The Lauder Institute at the University of Pennsylvania offers a MA International Studies joint degree with the Wharton MBA or Penn Carey Law JD.

Congratulations to the Lauder Institute’s Sudev Sheth, who has been awarded a prestigious Fulbright U.S. Scholar grant to India for 2026–27.

His project, “Ahmedabad’s Architects: Merchant Capitalism and Shaping a City Across Seven Centuries,” examines how business communities have shaped urban development, governance, and global commercial networks over the long term. His research, which will be based at CEPT University in Ahmedabad, will combine archival work and oral histories to explore how cities are built not only by states, but by networks of merchants, institutions, and ideas.

The project builds on Sheth’s work at the Lauder Institute, where he teaches courses on global business and the role of cities in shaping economic life.

Earlier this week, Lauder Institute Director and Wharton's Nippon Life Professor in Finance Jules van Binsbergen had the honor of being selected to deliver the faculty address at Convocation, welcoming The Wharton School’s MBA Class of 2028. His message: AI can do the analysis, but leaders still need the expertise to know whether the output is right – and the judgment to stake their name on it.

As Professor van Binsbergen put it: “AI has not lowered the value of expertise. It has raised it.” In a world where everyone has access to the same powerful tools, it is deep knowledge, original thinking, and sound judgment that will set tomorrow's leaders apart.

🌍 How do you prepare students for a world where geopolitics shapes business decisions?

In the Lauder Institute's Politics and Policy Program (PPP), students examine how politics, regulation, and business intersect through workshops, international fieldwork, interviews with policymakers and industry leaders, and the development of professional policy briefs.

📖 Wharton Magazine highlights the vision behind PPP and the experiences that bring it to life, including insights from Professor Regina Abrami, who conceptualized the program; alumnus Pavel Oliva (G00, WG00), whose philanthropic support helped launch it; and Lauder students Cristina Hernández (G27, WG27) and Hiroki Kobayashi (G26, WG26), whose field research showcases the program's experiential approach.
