Newly obtained video is raising serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the death of a 48-year-old man in Philadelphia’s Olney neighborhood.

According to 6abc, the video shows a Philadelphia police officer stopping after the man fell in the roadway, then leaving the scene. Less than five minutes later, the man was struck and killed by a passing vehicle.

Cases involving a sequence of actions like this can be incredibly complex. Determining responsibility requires closely examining every contributing factor — including available video, witness accounts, records and the actions of everyone involved.

Newly obtained video shows the moments a Philadelphia police officer left a man lying in the roadway in Olney minutes before the man was struck by a vehicle and killed.

The video, obtained by Action News on Monday, shows an officer stopping to assist a 48-year-old man who had fallen on Rising Sun Avenue near the intersection with Olney Avenue. The officer parked his vehicle to block the intersection and appeared to speak with the man.

The Justice Max Baer Memorial Fund was created to carry forward the late Chief Justice Max Baer’s lifelong commitment to helping Pennsylvania’s children. Through the Fund, children receiving services through the court system are given access to life-enriching opportunities and resources that might otherwise be out of reach.

For ILP Founding Partner Ben Baer, this mission is deeply personal. Justice Baer was not only his father, but also an important influence in the formation of Injury Law Partners and the values of compassion, respect and justice that continue to guide our firm today.
