Last night, a sold-out crowd of supporters and allies joined us for A Night of Impact, our biggest celebration yet. With a record number of sponsors behind us, we raised more than ever before in support of our work.

We presented this year’s Thaddeus Stevens Award to our young clients and their families, who stood up to protect their medical privacy, and to our pro bono co-counsel at Ballard Spahr. Their win shows what we can accomplish together.

Thank you to our emcee, David Dye, to everyone who was in the room, and to everyone who stands with us. There’s more work ahead, and we’re ready for it.

Together, we won landmark victories protecting the privacy of young people who received gender-affirming care.

The Pennsylvania Department of Human Services is ignoring two previous court rulings to implement two rules for Medicaid reimbursement that have negative consequences on the quality of life of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. So, we'll see them in court.

“We see this as a really outrageous action that the state has taken to flout a Commonwealth Court ruling,” Madison Gray, a staff attorney with the Public Interest Law Center, told Spotlight PA.

BREAKING: University of Pittsburgh Medical Center has agreed to prohibit the provision of gender-affirming care and pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to the Trump administration.

To be clear: gender-affirming care is legal in Pennsylvania. Gender-related discrimination is not.

BREAKING: We’ve filed a class action lawsuit on behalf of four Pennsylvanians against the state Department of Human Services over two rules limiting Medicaid reimbursement for care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities in participant-directed services programs.

The 40/60 rule limits reimbursement for care provided by one person to 40 hours per week. And it limits reimbursement for care provided by all family members at 60 hours per week.

The travel rule bans reimbursement for care provided when a participant in the program travels outside of Pennsylvania or the six states that border the Commonwealth.

The people we and our pro bono co-counsel at Kessler Topaz represent participate in a participant-directed Medicaid Home and Community-Based Care waiver program and need more care than what the Commonwealth will reimburse; some need care around-the-clock.

Pennsylvania has a vested interest in people with intellectual and developmental disabilities living at home in their communities instead of in institutions. They have better outcomes and a better quality of life.
