Hurricane season brings serious risks long after the storm passes.

CPSC is warning families about post-storm hazards including carbon monoxide poisoning from portable generators, fires, gas leaks, electric shock, and electrocution.

If your power goes out:

✔️ Never use a portable generator inside your home, garage, basement, crawlspace, shed, or any enclosed area.
✔️ Use generators outdoors only, at least 20 feet from your home, with exhaust pointed away from windows, doors, and vents.
✔️ Test smoke and carbon monoxide alarms before severe weather arrives.
✔️ Never use charcoal indoors.
✔️ Do not touch wet appliances that are still plugged in.
✔️ If you smell gas, leave immediately and call for help from outside.

Carbon monoxide is colorless and odorless. It can become deadly before symptoms are recognized.

At McEldrew Purtell, we represent families in catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases involving unsafe products, fires, explosions, toxic exposure, and preventable post-storm hazards.

Stay prepared. Share this with someone who may be relying on a generator this storm season.

Appliance fires can cause catastrophic damage when a product overheats, ignites, or fails without warning. Families affected deal with serious burns, smoke inhalation, property loss, medical treatment, and unanswered questions. It is important to have access to counsel that understands catastrophic product defects, knows how to investigate product failures, and can help determine whether a manufacturer, installer, repair company, landlord, or another party may be responsible.

At McEldrew Purtell, we have extensive experience in representing victims of catastrophic product defects. If your family suffered burns, smoke inhalation, or loss after an appliance fire, contact McEldrew Purtell.

A cerebrospinal fluid leak after a dural injury can be debilitating and life-threatening.

These cases may arise after an epidural injection, lumbar puncture, spinal cord stimulator insertion, spine procedure, or another intervention near the dura. Patients may suffer severe migraines, brain injury, seizures, meningitis, spinal abscesses, sepsis, repeat procedures, permanent neurological damage, or death.

The outcome may depend on how quickly the leak was identified, what care was provided, and how severely the patient was harmed.

If you believe a serious injury may be connected to a CSF leak or dural puncture, contact McEldrew Purtell for a free, confidential evaluation.

June is National Safety Month - a time to recognize that safety is a commitment that protects lives every day.

Whether on the road, at work, in healthcare settings, through defective products, or in public spaces, many catastrophic injuries and deaths are not random “accidents.” They are the result of preventable choices: ignored risks, inadequate training, unsafe systems, defective equipment, or failure to follow basic safety rules.

At McEldrew Purtell, we see the consequences when safety is treated as optional. Families are left to navigate loss or life-changing injuries, grief, medical uncertainty, and financial pressure, often because someone failed to take reasonable precautions. This month, we encourage businesses, drivers, healthcare providers, property owners, and institutions to take safety seriously before harm occurs.

Lives depend on prevention and accountability.

When toxic chemical exposure happens in the supply chain, the injuries can be catastrophic. Victims may be dealing with chemical burns, respiratory damage, organ injury, and long-term illness, while still trying to understand how the exposure happened. It is important for them to have access to counsel that understands these cases.

At McEldrew Purtell, we have extensive experience handling catastrophic injury and wrongful death cases involving complex product and industrial failures. If your family suffered serious harm after a chemical spill, toxic exposure, warehouse incident, transportation accident, or hazardous material release, contact McEldrew Purtell to understand your options.

Marcus A. Washington, Esq. secured a $2.7 million settlement in a medical malpractice wrongful death case involving delayed CPR. When emergency intervention is delayed, the consequences can be irreversible. Cases like this hinge on whether providers acted with the urgency the situation required.

This resolution reflects the devastating harm that can result when critical care is not delivered on time. It also reinforces the importance of accountability in medical settings where delayed action can cost a life.

We commend Marcus for this significant result and his continued work on behalf of families pursuing answers after preventable loss. Partner with Marcus today: https://hubs.li/Q04gScKg0

Not every injured SEPTA worker is limited to workers’ compensation. Depending on your role, division, and day-to-day duties, your claim may fall under the Federal Employers' Liability Act (FELA) instead. That distinction is important, as FELA may allow broader damages than workers’ compensation.

The type of claim may often depend on whether the worker is classified as city-side, which is typically workers’ compensation, or rail-side, which may fall under FELA.

If you were seriously injured while working for SEPTA, contact McEldrew Purtell to find out whether your case may qualify as an FELA claim.

Early reports say traffic was slowing for an upcoming work zone when the bus struck multiple vehicles. That raises urgent questions about speed, braking, driver conduct, company safety practices, and whether this crash could have been prevented.

Several foreign trucking companies have been changing their name and company in order to skirt regulations and accountability. This practice is known as "Chameleon Carriers," and it has raised concerns of further corporate negligence in seemingly standard commercial trucking accidents. These cases require immediate investigation, not only for the accident itself but for the parties involved.

If you or someone you know has been involved in a crash involving a commercial trucking accident, reach out to McEldrew Purtell for a free confidential evaluation.
