Not only does speeding through construction zones pose a significant risk to workers, but it also will result in substantial fines and court costs. The Illinois State Police has been issuing (seemingly) as many tickets as it can over the past couple of months. Particularly with the holiday season approaching, this is your warning to exercise caution and reduce your speed. Be safe!

Congratulations to our client who was acquitted last week on a Class 1 felony charge in Tazewell County. Had he been convicted, he would have had to serve a minimum of 4 years (and up to 15 years) in prison. The jury took only 30 minutes to return a Not Guilty verdict!

A judge in Whiteside County ruled against a long-standing principle that the smell of cannabis alone is enough for law enforcement to search a vehicle. This issue has been lingering since the legalization of cannabis. We now have a case that will likely be appealed by the State and eventually provide guidance on how this will be handled moving forward.

The ruling comes after a passenger showed an Illinois State Trooper his medical use card and was arrested for possessing 2.6 grams of cannabis in December 2020.
