Congratulations to PHS Mock Trial Team. Best of luck at State. The Northwest Florida Association of Women Lawyers is proud to support you!

The PHS Mock Trial team pushed hard last week and presented a flawless case against Pace High School and are now the reigning 1st Circuit Court Champions!

They will head to the state competition held in Orlando on March 7th, 8th, and 9th to compete against 15 other teams for a state ranking.

The team that competed at the Circuit level are 100% IB Students. Congratulations and good luck!!!

“JUSTICE”. I discuss JUSTICE with juries, state attorneys, judges, everyone. Recently, I was blessed to visit Israel and there in Jerusalem I met the most amazing artist, Udi Merioz. Check out Udi at The Blue and White Art Gallery. This painting reminds us that there are 2 types of justice: 1. Man’s laws; 2. God’s justice which is MERCY. I have this framed print in my office. It is my favorite keepsake from my trip to Israel.
Udi’s explanation of the painting: “In the painting the gavel expresses the Law. The moon, which lights up the darkness, represents the mercy, the light in the dark and hard times. The scale is the balance between the two, judgment according to the law, but with mercy. ”

If you are a party to a Domestic Violence or a No Contact Order then this article could be of interest to you. With Apple's iOS 16 update Apple has added functionality that will allow you to edit or delete sent texts. If you are the recipient of an offending text while under such an order as either party then you will want to screen shot the text to preserve it for your case.

This only affects those where both parties have iPhones and are using iOS 16 and above.

Apple will implement its newest update, IOS 16, on Monday, complete with the ability to edit and unsend text messages.

Here is one very valuable piece of legal advice. From my experience as a criminal trial lawyer and a domestic/stalking injunction attorney - I promise you that everyone does NOT know this. Or they know it but don’t care. As I observed injunction hearings this morning I thought about this many times! (By the way, I didn’t think this about my client. Yes, we won our hearing. ) Put this on the list of things to remind your teenage child or older children, your friends, or your relatives in times of crisis.

Sadly, the country lost a brilliant legal mind and fierce warrior today, Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg (age 87). Regardless of your politics it is important to recognize that she was an amazing woman, mother, attorney, judge and Justice. She dared to defy the views and norms of her time and bravely pursued her career and her passions. We can all learn something from her. All should be amazed by the great strides she made for women and many others. Prayers for peace for her family. 🙏🙏🙏

Finally, our sons and daughters will receive a fair hearing in Title IX proceedings. Thank you Betsy DeVoss for your hard work to protect students.

Almost three years after the DOE rescinded the 2011 “Dear Colleague” letter, new Title IX regulations take effect that balance the rights of all students.
