My home assessment just went up almost $130,000! 😳
And judging by what I’m seeing in local Facebook groups, I’m not the only one getting a little sticker shock.
But here’s something a lot of homeowners, especially first-time buyers, may not realize.
Just because your home’s assessed value increased 20%, 30%, or even 40%, that doesn’t mean your property taxes are going up by that same percentage.
In New Hampshire, when towns reassess property values, the tax rate per thousand generally adjusts as well.
Your actual tax bill depends on the new rate, your assessment, and how much money needs to be raised.
I put together this quick video to explain how it works.
If you’ve received one of these notices, take a minute and watch.
And if you know someone who just bought their first home, share this with them. It might save them a little unnecessary stress.
