🎬 Know your audience… especially in court.

One attorney planned a dramatic opening statement complete with a movie clip and PowerPoint slides. The problem? It was a bench trial. No jury. Just the judge. 😅

When the judge admitted he’d never even seen the movie, the whole strategy fell flat.

Big lesson: courtroom persuasion isn’t about what sounds clever. It’s about what connects with the person deciding the case. ⚖️

A great opening statement does more than explain the case.

It tells the judge:
✔️ What happened
✔️ What matters
✔️ Why it matters

By the time closing arguments roll around, the foundation may already be set. ⚖️

The courtroom does not care about your beautifully prepared script. 😬

This reel is a masterclass in why experienced trial lawyers outline… instead of memorizing.

Because evidence changes.
Witnesses change.
Trials change.

And if your closing argument doesn’t change with them?
A judge may remind you very loudly. 🔨

🚨 One filing mistake can destroy an appeal. 🚨

In this clip from Lawyers Without Billboards, the team breaks down a brutal appellate rule:

If you’re represented by an attorney, a pro se filing may be treated as a legal nullity… meaning the court acts like it never existed.

⚖️ So what happens if that filing was made during the 30-day appeal window?

If the attorney never properly filed the appeal before the deadline expired, the appellate window may be gone forever.

No extension. No reset. No second chance.

Procedure matters. Timing matters. And appellate courts take both VERY seriously.

🚨 In Georgia, appeal deadlines and filing rules aren’t suggestions. They’re jurisdictional. 🚨

In the case discussed here, the appeal was dismissed because the party filed a pro se Notice of Appeal while still represented by an attorney. Under Georgia law, that filing was treated as a legal nullity.

⚖️ Translation? Even filing something on time may not save your appeal if it’s not done properly.

The courts can lose jurisdiction entirely.

Procedure matters. Timing matters. And small mistakes can have massive consequences.
