Beginning in 2016, Fayette County State Court has implemented a DUI/Drug Court program to help individuals with addiction issues receive the assistance that they need. The DUI/Drug Court Team is coordinated by Martha Hall and also includes the following: Jason B. Thompson, State Court Judge; Jamie Inagawa, Solicitor General; Joseph Myers, Assistant Solicitor General; Henry Adeleye, Assistant Public Defender; Demian Combs, Probation Officer; Michele Gable, Choice Labs Inc.; Lt. Brad Williams and Cpl. Courtney Lumpkin, Peachtree City Police Department; Genna Morris, Turning Point; Teresa Hampton, Cindi Polo, and Tom Harber, Community Liaisons; and John Paone, Surveillance Officer. All team members collaborate to support each participant in addressing and combating the substance abuse issues that brought them into the criminal justice system. Throughout this program, participants receive an individualized three phase treatment plan that lasts an average of 12-18 months. Additionally, participants attend weekly group sessions, AA/NA meetings, and random drug and alcohol testing. They also receive individual counseling to ensure their progress and success within the program. During the three years it has been operational, the Fayette County DUI/Drug Court has successfully produced 19 graduates. It has also saved our community over $400,000 due to reduced jail time, as well as created a safer public environment, and reduced recidivism. Holistically, this program allows individuals struggling with addiction to cope with and directly become accountable for their actions, while also improving our overall community.
