STAR TREK AND THE CORONAVIRUS

I’m a big Star Trek fan. Maybe not officially that big. I know that I should call myself a Trekker and not a Trekkie, but I never really called myself either. I did watch all of the series-- the original, Deep Space Nine, The Next Generation and the disappointing Voyager. I don’t know the names of each episode, but I remember most of them, at least in the original. [ 516 more words ]

Fan Review-GAME OF THRONES

I haven’t written anything for this blog for a long time, since I have been writing novels and short stories (all unpublished-help!). I am a Game of Thrones fan and the criticism from fans of the finale makes me think that they haven’t understood the point. The whole interest of the story was moral ambiguity-who is really good?, who is really bad?, what compromises should be made to evil and practicality. [ 132 more words ]

IMMIGRATION AND CHOCOLATE

IMMIGRATION-THE CHOCOLATE SOLUTION Washington is dysfunctional. They can’t find a solution to anything. The government is shut down. At least I get my Social Security. In this age, it is time for all of us to stop being Sunshine Patriots, role up our sleeves at the grass roots, and come up with a solution. So here is mine-FOOD. What we need is a new immigration policy that admits people into this country based on whether the food in their county is good. [ 287 more words ]

Review-Lamentation- A Shardlake Novel by C. J. Samson

This is my true confessions review. Confession 1-I am a Luddite, I can’t use Kindle. Confession 2-I bought this book in hardcover therefore wasting money. If I had Kindle or waited until it came out in paperback it would have been cheaper. Confession 3- I nearly went into mourning when I finished the book, which I read at rapid pace, because I loved it and missed the characters when I turned the last page. [ 221 more words. ]

CELTIC WOMEN/ROMAN WOMEN http://wp.me/p2JEmB-5u

One of the interesting relationships in Sempre Fidelis was that between Tilla and the Empress Sabina, who was the wife of Hadrian. Although Sabina is married to the most powerful man in the world she controls little of her personal life. Tilla on the contrary is quite independent. Sabina was Roman, Tilla is a Celt and the lives of women in these groups was very different. [ 433 more words. ]

In 1984, before there was WEHo and NOHo, I moved to Highland Park. In 1984, Los Angeles was the Westside, the Valley, Hollywood and an undifferentiated mass. When I mentioned my intention of moving there, I invariably heard-Highland Park –gangs. I worked downtown, wanted to buy a house and the closets in houses on the Westside that I could afford, couldn’t fit my shoes. [ 2524 more words. ]
