💍 Recently Married? Make These Changes Before Tax Season!

Marriage is an exciting milestone, but it can also change your tax situation. Taking a few simple steps now can make filing next year much easier:

✅ Report any name change to the Social Security Administration.
✅ Update your address with employers, financial institutions, the post office, and the IRS.
✅ Submit a new Form W-4 to your employer and review your tax withholding—especially if both spouses work.
✅ Remember that your marital status on December 31 determines your filing options for the entire year.
✅ Compare Married Filing Jointly and Married Filing Separately to determine which is more beneficial.
✅ Keep all W-2s, 1099s, and other important tax documents together.
✅ Review how marriage may affect your tax credits and deductions.

A little preparation now can help prevent delays and surprises later! Contact Garcia’s Notary & Income Tax Svc LLC if you need assistance preparing for the upcoming tax season. 💼📄

🚨 IMPORTANT FINCEN UPDATE FOR SMALL-BUSINESS OWNERS 🚨

FinCEN has permanently ended the Beneficial Ownership Information (BOI) reporting requirement for U.S. companies and U.S. persons under the Corporate Transparency Act.

✅ U.S. companies are no longer required to file BOI reports.
✅ U.S. persons are no longer required to provide or update BOI.
✅ FinCEN will delete information previously reported by U.S. persons.

Please note: Certain foreign entities registered to do business in the United States may still have reporting requirements, although they will not report information about U.S. persons.

This is a major update for millions of American small-business owners! Please share this information with other business owners who may still be unsure about their BOI filing responsibilities.

💡 Tax Tip: Interest vs. Principal

When you make a loan payment, it is usually divided into two parts:

✅ Interest – This is the cost of borrowing money. When the loan is used for a qualified business purpose, the interest may be tax-deductible.

❌ Principal – This is the amount borrowed that you are paying back. Principal payments are not deductible because borrowed money was not originally reported as taxable income.

For example, if your business loan payment is $500 and $100 is interest, you may be able to deduct the $100—not the entire $500 payment.

Remember: Interest is not automatically deductible. The deduction depends on how the borrowed funds were used and whether proper records are maintained. Always keep your loan statements and separate business borrowing from personal borrowing.

📌 Good bookkeeping helps ensure you claim the correct deductions!

Small Business Owners: Stop Mixing Business and Personal Funds!

One of the biggest reasons I see small businesses struggle is mixing business money with personal spending. Your business account should be used for business expenses only.

It’s easy to believe your business isn’t making money when the account never grows—but sometimes, the money is being spent on personal expenses before you can see the actual profit.

Keep up with your bookkeeping, reinvest part of your profit into the business, and pay yourself a reasonable percentage for personal use. If that amount isn’t enough to cover your personal bills, you may need another source of income while your business grows.

Your business cannot grow if you spend every dollar it earns. Treat it like a business—not a personal bank account.
