📢 Attention all Los Angeles employers! The city's minimum wage just increased.

Effective today, July 1, 2026, the City of Los Angeles minimum wage is $18.42 per hour. The rate applies to any employee who works at least two hours in a given week within city limits, regardless of whether they are full-time, part-time, or temporary.

A few reminders:
👉 Update your posted wage notices.
👉 Review your payroll to confirm compliance.
👉 Keep all payroll records for at least four years.

Self-driving trucks are coming, and the regulatory landscape is moving fast. 🚛

Both California and the federal government are pushing to allow autonomous heavy-duty vehicles on public roads. For transportation employers, big questions around driver classification, liability, and compliance are still unresolved.

⚠️ California trucking and transportation employers: a standard industry practice just became illegal.

As of January 1, 2026, AB 692 broadly prohibits "stay-or-pay" clauses: the arrangements carriers have long used to protect their investment in drivers. If your employment agreements, offer letters, or onboarding documents include these terms, you may already be out of compliance.

The penalties are real: Employees can sue directly, and if they win, the minimum payout is $5,000 per violation... more if their actual losses are higher. Attorney's fees are on top of that. For a carrier with multiple affected drivers, that exposure adds up quickly.

Narrow exceptions do exist, but the bar is high, and the details matter. Now's the time to audit your agreements.

⚖️ The Supreme Court just changed the rules for freight brokers... and the implications are immediate.

In a unanimous 9-0 ruling, the Court ruled in Montgomery v. Caribe Transport II, LLC that freight brokers can now be held liable under state law for negligently hiring an unsafe carrier that causes a motor vehicle accident. The federal preemption shield that brokers have relied on for years to defeat these claims is gone.

If you're a broker, carrier, or shipper, the standard moving forward is clear. If you haven't reviewed your vetting process, contracts, and insurance coverage, now is the time.
