Last week, our attorneys Mike Mauriel and Jason Bartlett attended the annual IP Counsel Café, a conference our firm proudly attends and sponsors each year!

Mike also had the opportunity to moderate the “Changes at the USPTO” session, joined by Keith Jurek (Senior Patent Counsel, Grailbo), Cheryl Franke (Patent Attorney, NAGRA), Jessica Wilson (Associate General Counsel, Carvana), Kanda Ishihara (Senior IP Counsel, LYFT), and Aashish Karkhanis (Counsel-IP, Aurora).

The session covered various developments at the USPTO in 2025 and early 2026. The panel discussed the impact changes in fees, appeal pendency, USPTO 101 policies, examiner production pressures, pilot programs, and decline of IPRs on prosecution, litigation, and licensing strategies and dynamics.
