💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜
Domestic Violence is a crime that affects victims, families, and communities. During Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Sarpy County Attorney’s Office stands with survivors and remains committed to holding abusers accountable for acts of domestic violence.
Our prosecutors and victim advocates work alongside law enforcement and community partners to investigate and prosecute domestic violence offenses while helping survivors navigate the criminal justice system. We recognize that reporting abuse and participating in a criminal case can be difficult, and we are committed to treating victims with dignity, respect, and compassion throughout the process.
Everyone in our community has a role to play in supporting survivors and preventing domestic violence:
🔹 Believe survivors. If someone tells you they are experiencing abuse, listen and take their concerns seriously. Do not blame the victim.
🔹 Encourage victims to seek help. Law enforcement, victim advocates, shelters, and other community resources can help survivors understand their options.
🔹 Report suspected abuse. If you believe someone is in immediate danger, call 911. You do not have to wait for violence to become more serious before asking for help.
🔹 Support the criminal justice process. Witnesses and community members who have information about domestic violence can play an important role in helping law enforcement investigate crimes and hold offenders accountable.
Domestic violence is not a private family matter—it is a crime and a community issue. By supporting survivors, reporting abuse, cooperating with law enforcement, and refusing to tolerate domestic violence, we can make Sarpy County safer.
Members of our community experiencing domestic violence have resources available to them.
