As Belize celebrated its 45th Independence Day this month, our team at Belize Sugar Industries (BSI) was proud to join the annual Sugar City Carnival Parade in Orange Walk.

Since 1967, BSI has produced quality cane sugar products in Belize. From sugarcane farming and milling to renewable energy production, our parade float reflected our company's operations and heritage, as well as the industry's role as an economic driver for northern Belize and a significant contributor to the country's GDP.

The event also showcased the teamwork of employees from across the business who came together to celebrate Belize's culture and independence alongside our community.

At ASR Group, we're proud to give back to the communities where we live and work. We were pleased to continue our support for Baltimore's Hunger Free Zone through a sugar donation from our Domino Sugar Baltimore Refinery that will help the organization prepare meals for the feeding program it operates, serving hundreds of people in the city each day.

For 40 years, Joe Serpas has built his career at our Domino Sugar Chalmette Refinery in Arabi, Louisiana, growing from laborer to Sr. Packaging Engineer. Today, he oversees packaging systems, leads improvement projects and helps guide the maintenance, upgrades and long-term performance of the refinery's packaging operations.

Supporting our neighbors facing food insecurity is an important part of ASR Group’s commitment to the communities we call home. In Northern California, home to our C&H Sugar Crockett Refinery, we’re proud of our nearly 30-year partnership with the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano, which provides free food directly to the community through a variety of programs and services. Thanks to our C&H Sugar team in Crockett for coordinating another donation of sugar for the Food Bank, which will help provide a staple ingredient for cooking and baking to families in our community.

Our Domino Sugar Baltimore Refinery oyster gardening team kicked off another season of partnership with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation to support oyster restoration efforts in the Bay. Our employee volunteers will care for baby oysters at the refinery’s dock until next spring, when the oysters will be delivered to a nearby sanctuary reef. There, they will help filter the water and create habitat for fish and other Bay creatures. This hands-on partnership is one of the ways ASR Group supports organizations working to protect the environment in the communities where we live and work. Thanks to all our volunteer oyster gardeners!

A collaboration between Tellus Products, LLC and South Florida nonprofit Project LIFT is giving young adults in the Belle Glade, Florida community where Tellus’ manufacturing facility is located a closer look at manufacturing careers — and a clearer path toward joining the local workforce.

During visits to the facility, participants see how products move from forming and quality checks to packaging and shipping, while also learning about the variety of roles that keep the operation running, including production, logistics, quality assurance and skilled trades. For some current Tellus employees, that introduction became the start of a career.

Recently, five high school students from our Newham, London community joined colleagues at our Tate & Lyle Sugars Thames Refinery for a week of work experience. They gained first-hand insight into manufacturing operations and explored careers in Environment, Finance, Human Resources and Corporate Affairs — all within the community where they live and learn.
