As a young girl, she was active in Lake County Saddlehorse 4H, Concord Girls Softball, and was a regular volunteer at the Lake County Farmpark. She graduated from Riverside High School and achieved her Bachelor of Science degree from Lake Erie College, Summa Cum Laude. Tekavec worked in the equine industry prior to attending Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, and continued to work full-time for th
e City of Cleveland Heights Law Department while attending law school in the evenings. In December of 2011, Ms. Tekavec graduated Cum Laude from Cleveland-Marshall and began setting her sights on Juvenile Law at the Lake County Prosecutor's Office in June of 2012. Tekavec advanced quickly at the prosecutor's office and became Juvenile Division Supervisor in January of 2015. Throughout her career, Ms. Tekavec has successfully handled numerous cases of varying degree. In the beginning of her legal career, as a legal-intern, Ms. Tekavec prosecuted many traffic and misdemeanor criminal cases for the City of Cleveland Heights. Upon joining the Lake County Prosecutor’s Office, Ms. Tekavec handled many serious felony cases in the Juvenile and Felony Divisions, including cases of: drug trafficking, vehicular/felonious assault, inducing panic, and an international "SWATTING" case. Tekavec also served as lead prosecutor in the 2015 alleged murder/delinquency case in the Lake County Juvenile Court. While in private practice, Ms. Tekavec represented juveniles charged with delinquencies, adults charged with criminal offenses, parents and grandparents in Children Services related and non-Children Services related custody matters. Tekavec has been appointed by area courts to represent indigent defendants and as a Guardian ad Litem for the minor children in our communities. Tekavec is a lifelong learner. She believes in constant growth and evolution in yourself and your profession. She has assisted Ohio Supreme Court Justice Pat Fischer and other Ohio Judges in presenting a CLE for the Ohio State Bar Association on the Best Practices for Virtual Hearings. Tekavec has also taught CLEs for the OSBA on the topic of building a rapport with juvenile clients. Tekavec is also an aspiring children’s author. Keep an eye out for a book coming soon!! Tekavec is passionate about advancing the rule of law and giving back to her community through involvement in the Ohio Supreme Court iCourt Juvenile/Probate Subcommittee, as an Ohio State Bar Foundation Fellow, and as an Ohio Supreme Court Magistrate Mentor. Tekavec is a proud 2020 graduate of the OSBA Leadership Academy, member of the Ashtabula County Bar Association, the Lake County Bar Association, the Ohio State Bar Association, and the Ohio Association of Magistrates. Tekavec serves as a member of the OSBA Leadership Academy Advisory Council, the Planning Committee for the OAM Juvenile Division, and was recently appointed as a Trustee for the Ashtabula Bar. She is a member of FOPA Lodge #25, a member of the 2022 LEADERship Ashtabula County Signature Class, and is active in the community through volunteer service at the YMCA and St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church through coaching and judging mock trial and youth athletics, and supporting local events.
