"The event's purpose is to hear directly from Black students and families about their lived experiences in Ventura County, and to ensure these voices are shared with the Ventura County Office of Education (VCOE) Board of Education.

Over the past several months, the African American Clergy Coalition has received an increasing number of reports involving racial hate speech and violence occurring in our schools.

The goal is to support school districts in addressing racial incidents in ways that protect Black students, uphold their dignity, and ensure that appropriate and actionable consequences are applied to those causing harm. To do this effectively, we must hear directly from the community.

Your presence is essential. We are also requesting attendance of the school district administration, board members, teachers, wellness staff, and city and county leaders."

CLUE-VC Board - Rev. Betty, Rev. Melissa, Rev. Benjamin, Nan, Tim, and Cynthia

Oxnard Homeless Prevention is out of funds! Can you help?

YOU can help struggling families stay in their homes!
Please Donate at: https://oxnardhomelessprevention.com/help-prevent-homelessness/. And if you are moved to help in this important work by volunteering, please contact [email protected]!

How it works:
Modeled on the successful Ventura Homeless Prevention program, Oxnard Homeless Prevention pays up to $1500 - a one-time rent payment for people who:

-have paid rent in the Oxnard area (zip codes 93030, 93031, 93032, 93033, 93034, 93035 and 93036);
-have had a temporary problem that prevents them from paying rent this one time; and
-have fixed the problem and so can pay their own rent again going forward.

It works!
Last year, the program helped 22 families to avoid eviction, including 32 adults and 28 children.
Case managers work on budgeting and finding additional help, so 90% of those we have helped are still housed one year later.
In contrast to publicly funded rental assistance programs, immigration status is not a barrier at OHP.

If you are interested in learning more about homelessness in Ventura County, the 2026 Point-in-Time Homeless Report is at: https://coc.venturacounty.gov/reports/.

Among the findings, it credits "Dedicated funding for homelessness prevention and landlord engagement programs [with] helping at-risk individuals and families remain housed."
