Okay not going to lie, this was NOT on my August bingo card 🐷🌊

(Yes those are pigs. Swimming. In the ocean. I have questions too lol)

But kind of a perfect way to end the month, because if there's one thing I learned this year, it's that you never really know what's coming next 😅

This month we busted some myths, answered the questions nobody asks out loud, and heard from real families along the way.

If August wasn't your month to get it done, September's wide open.

Okay so today was "Just Because Day" 🤍

And we used it as an excuse to do exactly that… just because.

We went around to our local banks here in The Villages and dropped off some goodies.

Because real talk, they do SO much for our clients 👇

Making sure beneficiary designations are set up right. Making sure accounts are properly connected to trusts.

The behind-the-scenes stuff that actually matters.

So this one's just a little thank you. No big reason needed 🫶🏼

Just got back from Alaska with my people 🤍❄️

Whales, waterfalls, way too many photos.

But also… vacation brain can't fully turn off apparently 😅

Because here's something I see mixed up ALL the time 👇

A power of attorney ends the moment someone passes.

It only works while you're alive.

After that, it's your personal representative (named in your will) who takes over.

Two different roles. Two different documents!

Easy to mix up. Even easier to get right from the start 🤍

Okay so let's talk about naming a guardian… 😅

Genuinely one of THE hardest decisions in this whole process.

So here's how to actually think it through 👇

1️⃣ who shares your values, not just your last name

2️⃣ who has the bandwidth and stability for it

3️⃣ talk to them BEFORE you name them

4️⃣ name a backup, always

5️⃣ and here's the relief… you can change your mind later. Nothing's permanent!

So no, you don't have to get it "perfect" today.

You just have to start 🤍

POV: you came in to get your estate plan handled and got greeted by the cutest member of the Pittman Law team. 🐾💗

She’s great for moral support.

Legal advice? We’ll handle that part. 😂

Because “I’ll just write my wishes down and sign it” sounds easy… until you realize Florida has actual requirements for a valid will. 👀

And if those requirements aren’t met? That handwritten will you were counting on might not hold up the way you thought it would.

Moral of the story: DIY is great for a lot of things.

Your estate plan probably shouldn’t be one of them. 😉
