What Every Ole Miss Student Needs to Know Before Move-In
Welcome to Oxford!
Before classes start, here are 6 legal realities every new Ole Miss student should know:
1. Fake IDs are not a small deal. Using one can mean a criminal charge + driver's license suspension in Mississippi.
2. Oxford enforces open container. No open drinks on The Square, in The Grove, or on campus, even if you're 21.
3. DUI includes .02 for under 21. And yes, you can get a DUI on a scooter or golf cart. Oxford PD, UPD, and MHP are out in force during move-in and game weekends.
4. Don't share prescriptions. Giving a friend one Adderall to study is felony distribution under MS law. Same for THC vapes/edibles bought online.
5. Your lease is binding. In Mississippi, if your roommate doesn't pay, you could be liable for their rent. Photo everything on move-in.
6. If you're stopped, keep it simple: Be polite. Don't argue. "I do not consent to a search." "I want to remain silent and speak to a lawyer." Call before you sign anything.
A small citation now can become a hold on your Ole Miss enrollment, a suspended license, or a warrant if ignored.
We help Ole Miss students and families with citations, DUIs, housing issues, and Title IX/conduct hearings. Early call = more options.
