One of the biggest misconceptions is that having a will means your loved ones can avoid probate.

In California, that's usually not the case.

A will is an important legal document because it lets you:
✔️ Name who should receive your assets.
✔️ Nominate guardians for minor children.
✔️ Express your wishes.

However, a will generally does not avoid probate. Probate is the court process used to administer an estate, and in many cases, a will is the document the court uses during that process.

That's one reason many families choose to learn about living trusts as part of their estate planning.

Estate planning isn't one-size-fits-all. The right plan depends on your goals, your family, and your situation.
