Pass the Gavel is here.

Join YLS on May 8 at the Citrus Club as we celebrate an incredible 2025-2026 year and formally welcome Sean Mendez-Catlin as our incoming YLS President. Sean has been an outstanding leader, volunteer and advocate for our young lawyer community, and we are excited to support him in this next chapter.

This year, YLS showed up in a big way. We donated more than $20,000 in backpacks, school supplies, Christmas presents and books, prepared free estate planning documents for 85+ first responders and veterans, helped feed 52 families, cleaned parks throughout Orlando, hosted our annual Great Oaks Village Field Day, provided new shoes for the kids, and took 15+ kids to an Orlando City Soccer game.

Thank you to President Cooper Powell for leading a year full of service, impact and energy. Now, it is time to pass the gavel, celebrate what we accomplished, and welcome Sean as he leads YLS into an exciting new year.

Another year, another unforgettable Great Oaks Village Field Day with YLS.

Each year, this event reminds us what service is really about. It is showing up, giving back and creating a day where the kids can simply have fun. From basketball and soccer to chess, games, food and plenty of smiles, this year’s Field Day brought energy, laughter and joy from start to finish.

We were also grateful for the opportunity to provide new shoes for the kids as a small way to help them feel supported, encouraged and ready for what comes next.

The fun continued that night at the Orlando City Soccer game, where we got to spend even more time with the kids and share another memorable experience together.

A huge thank you to our Chairs Jacob Mayer, James Davis, Hunter Hagood-James, Ritcy Canelon and Antoinette B. Romano, and to everyone who volunteered, donated and helped make this day possible. This is what community looks like.

Great vibes all around at the YLS happy hour last week at Morse Code Lounge on Park Ave.

Charcuterie boards, great drinks, and a fantastic group all around. Huge thank you to our chair, Briggs Holshey, for organizing, and for leading us into the final YLS happy hour before passing the gavel next month.

Recently YLS gathered at Blue Jacket Park for a peaceful session of Mindful Yoga in the Park.

Surrounded by nature and fresh air, we focused on mental and physical wellness alongside colleagues and friends. It was a refreshing opportunity to slow down, focus on our breath, and rejuvenate both mind and body.

A heartfelt thank you to Sabrina Jadunandan for chairing, leading the session, and creating such a valuable space for rest and renewal. Your leadership created a truly enriching and peaceful morning.

We are reminded that caring for ourselves strengthens our ability to serve others. Looking forward to more moments like this with YLS.

This past weekend the Young Lawyer's Section of the Orange County Bar Association hosted their Wills for Heroes event. This is an annual project that brings together the Orange County legal community to give back to Central Florida first responders, military veterans, and military personnel by creating their Estate Plans free of charge.

50 estate planning attorneys, notaries, and legal studies students volunteered their time on a Saturday this year to review, discuss, and execute over 80 estate planning packages for our local heroes and their spouses/partners. We would like to thank the UCF Legal Studies Department and Barry University School of Law for their continued support in helping put on this event for our community. We look forward to serving our local first responders again next year!

Last Friday, YLS had the opportunity to hear from past YLS president Andrew Roy on professionalism. His message was a great reminder that leadership is a privilege, and that it is not always fair, easy, or comfortable. He spoke about leading like a symphony, with different voices and strengths coming together to create something meaningful. Thank you to everyone who joined us for this thoughtful luncheon and to Andrew Roy for sharing valuable insight.

Speaking of leadership, as this was the final luncheon of the year for this board, we also want to thank President Cooper Powell for his hard work and dedication throughout the year. Cooper’s leadership played a major role in the success of every event and helped make this year such a strong one for YLS.
