Estate Planning as the Ultimate Client-Stickiness Tool

Estate planning has evolved from a niche offering to a core service for modern advisory firms. Tony Stich, chief marketing officer at Moran Wealth Management, says technology has made it accessible to clients across the wealth spectrum. He explains how it fuels organic and generational growth, protects assets under management by engaging heirs, and builds deeper client loyalty than investment management alone.

I’m leaving my $3.5M estate to my son, but I want to make sure his wife never gets a cut. How can I protect my money?

Awkward family dynamics often surface when drafting a will.

Consider Alice, a 73-year-old widow in Colorado with a $1.2 million home and about $2.3 million in savings. As she prepares her will, she plans to leave her entire estate to her son, Max, and his two children, Ethan and Sarah.

The Hidden Costs of Not Having a Will

Most people think estate planning is only for the wealthy.

The truth? Doing nothing can cost far more than you think:

- Probate can take months or even years and eat up 4–7% of your estate in legal fees.

- Family disputes are common when there’s no clear guidance.

- Unexpected medical and end-of-life expenses can drain savings if no plan is in place.

Small steps today can save your loved ones confusion, time, and money tomorrow.

More Americans are childless. It's complicating estate planning.

More Americans are choosing not to have children, complicating traditional estate planning, experts say.

In 2018, over 15 million adults 55 and older, about 16.5 percent, were childless, according to the United States Census Bureau. Meanwhile, the share of adults under 50 who say they are unlikely to have kids rose from 37 percent to 47 percent between 2018 and 2023, a survey by the Pew Research Center found.

Without heirs, many face pressing questions about who will manage their care, carry out their final wishes, and inherit their assets.

3 Estate Planning Moves You Can Make Before 40

Estate planning isn’t just for retirees. Even young adults can benefit from taking control now:

1. Name beneficiaries on all accounts – retirement, insurance, and bank accounts.

2. Set up a healthcare directive – your wishes are respected if you can’t speak for yourself.

3. Consider a trust for your kids – even small estates can avoid probate and provide clarity.

Starting early gives you more control, flexibility, and peace of mind.

If something happened to you tomorrow, who would make decisions for you?

Not who you assume would.
Who is legally authorized?

Without an estate plan, the courts decide. Not your family. Not you.

Don’t leave your life in limbo.
