For high-net-worth clients, alimony isn’t just a financial issue—it’s a strategic one.

Florida courts no longer default to permanent alimony. Duration of the marriage, standard of living, and each party’s ability to earn are closely analyzed.

The key: precise financial framing and legal foresight from the start.

At West Family Law Group, we guide clients through these negotiations with discretion and control—protecting wealth, reputation, and long-term stability.

Understand the rules. Navigate with purpose.

What’s not on the table can cost you more than what is.

In divorce, asset identification is everything. Attorney Richard West breaks down why mapping both marital and non-marital assets from day one is non-negotiable - especially for those with complex holdings.

At West Family Law Group, we bring precision and discretion to every case. When the stakes are high, we make sure you don’t leave anything behind.

Short answer: No.
Florida is a no-fault divorce state. You don’t need to prove wrongdoing—just that the marriage is irretrievably broken.

But while fault isn’t required, strategy is. Our role is to protect what matters most while navigating every detail with discretion and clarity.

Have questions? We’ll help you get answers that matter.

Real estate is often one of the most valuable and most emotionally charged assets in a divorce.

Before deciding who gets what, we begin with a clear understanding of the property's value. From there, options include:

• A buyout by one party
• Offsetting with other marital assets
• Selling the property and dividing the proceeds
• Retaining joint ownership under specific terms

Each option carries legal and financial implications. The right solution depends not only on the facts, but on your long-term goals.

Cryptocurrency is changing the financial landscape - and the complexities of divorce along with it.

Adam R. Sackrin of West Family Law Group was recently joined by Lee Upton to present “Crypto and Family Law: Hidden Assets, Volatility, and Valuation” at Central Florida Collaborative Divorce’s August General Meeting.

Their presentation explored the challenges digital assets can create in divorce, from identifying and valuing cryptocurrency to addressing volatility and equitable distribution in both litigated and collaborative matters.

As digital assets become increasingly common in complex financial portfolios, understanding how they may affect a divorce is critical to making informed decisions.

We’re proud to see Adam contributing to important conversations shaping the future of family law.

Can a prenuptial agreement be challenged?
Yes, but not easily when it’s properly drafted.

In Florida, a prenuptial agreement may be contested if there was a lack of full financial disclosure, coercion, fraud, or if the agreement was fundamentally unfair at the time it was signed.

However, when prepared correctly and executed voluntarily, prenuptial agreements are generally enforceable.

If you are entering a marriage, reviewing an existing agreement, or facing divorce with a prenup in place, early legal analysis is critical. The details, and the timing, matter.
