We are excited to celebrate our Employee of the Month!

Originally from Cuba, Rey made the move to the United States in 2011, spending several years in Missouri before eventually planting roots here in Florida. With over five years of experience as an immigration legal assistant, Rey brings not only expertise but also genuine care and connection to every interaction. He truly enjoys getting to know people and learning from their stories, which shines through in his work every day.

Rey is a self-proclaimed horror movie fan and is always up for a good scare. When he’s not watching films, you can often find him browsing record stores or antique shops, embracing his “old soul” spirit. His music taste is just as diverse—ranging from Edith Piaf to Bad Bunny, and from Nina Simone to Lady Gaga.

Rey also has a green thumb and a passion for collecting tropical plants and cacti, always on the hunt for the next unique addition. A coffee lover and café explorer, he enjoys discovering new spots just as much as he loves relaxing at the beach—his true happy place.

At home, he is a proud dog parent to a Siberian Husky, adding even more energy and joy to his life. When the opportunity arises, he loves to travel, with New York holding a special place as his favorite destination.

We are grateful for the dedication, warmth, and personality Rey brings to our team. Congratulations on being our Employee of the Month!

If you are in an abusive marriage, ending that relationship does not mean giving up on your immigration future.

Many people worry that divorcing an abusive U.S. citizen spouse will end their chances of getting legal status. That is not true. Immigration law does not expect you to remain in an abusive relationship to move forward.

Depending on your situation, options may still exist. This can include filing a VAWA petition if your green card application is still pending, or requesting removal of conditions if you have a conditional two year green card and are divorcing an abusive spouse.

Every case is different, and the right legal strategy matters. Getting guidance before taking the next step can help protect both your safety and your future.

This Memorial Day, we remember and honor the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. We also recognize the immigrants who have long stood among our nation’s warriors, making up about 5% of active-duty enlisted personnel and about 4.5% of the veteran population.

At Symphorien-Saavedra Law, we honor their sacrifice and extend our gratitude to the families who preserve their memory.

Today, we remember. Today, we honor.

Your immigration status should never be used as a tool for control, fear, or intimidation.

In this important clip from a joint live discussion with attorneys Melissa Triviño and Conti Moore Smith, Melissa answers a key question about how emotional abuse, coercion, and manipulation connected to immigration status may play a role in a VAWA case.

She also explains why documenting evidence, such as text messages, phone calls, and written communication, can be critically important.
These situations are often more complex than they appear, and understanding your rights truly matters.

In family immigration cases, especially marriage based cases, USCIS looks for evidence showing that the relationship is genuine and not entered into solely for immigration benefits.

In many situations, the concern is not the relationship itself, but how the evidence is organized and presented.

Financial records, proof of living together, travel history, photographs, and even details about the couple’s daily life may help demonstrate the authenticity of the relationship.

Every case is unique. Some couples have extensive shared financial documentation, while others may need to rely on different types of evidence to strengthen their case.

A well planned legal strategy can help identify the strongest aspects of the relationship and ensure the case is properly prepared before filing.

Contact Symphorien‑Saavedra Law to understand what evidence may support your case and how our team can guide you through the immigration process.

When applying for U.S. citizenship, USCIS evaluates what is known as “Good Moral Character“ during the period required by law.

This does not mean a person must be perfect. However, certain actions or past issues may raise concerns and may even result in a denial.

Every case is different. In many situations, there are legal strategies that can help explain past circumstances, provide supporting documentation, and reduce risks before filing the application.

If you have concerns about criminal history, taxes, immigration history, or any other sensitive issue, seeking legal guidance before applying may help prevent delays and complications.

What is consular processing?

Consular processing is used when a person applies for an immigrant visa from outside the United States, through a U.S. embassy or consulate. It is common in family based cases, employment petitions, and cases with prior immigration issues.

Because the final decision is made at the consulate, proper preparation is essential.
